We are now expanding our Risk team.

We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Trading Risk Analyst with expertise in rules and regulations in the Japanese power sector. You will be a key communicator who sets company risk policy in line with Japanese energy regulations and is comfortable discussing it with relevant internal departments and external stakeholders.
This position offers the opportunity to learn deeply about risk management in renewable energy trading markets, with clear career progression as the company and team grow.

• Interpret and implement the regulatory framework for Japanese energy markets across all levels.
• Become an expert in the entire value chain of TSOs, METI, and OCCTO regulations, for general trading and specifically for battery operations and ancillary markets.
• Assist the team to ensure all trading activities stay within risk limits/tolerances, and take independent action when breaches may occur.
• Manage internal approval processes, risk policy, and trading permission procedures.
• Present risk reports routinely to senior management in a clear and concise manner.
• Handle basic credit risk management for counterparties.

Morning: Monitor regulatory updates and risk indicators. Prepare risk meeting material.
Late morning: Discuss operational issues with trading operation team, evaluate regulatory implications and come up with solutions.
Afternoon: Review a new contract and assess new client credit risk.
Late afternoon: Participate in weekly risk meeting.

• Several years of experience in the Japanese electricity market, including work with electricity retailers (PPS), power trading companies (including sōgōshōsha), electricity/gas utilities, consultancies, or governmental authorities.
• Proactive in tracking regulatory updates and monitoring emerging market trends.
• Capable of conducting deep-dive analysis from both legal compliance and risk management perspectives.
• Strong attention to detail and diligence.
• Flexible, eager to learn in new fields, and comfortable across Japanese and foreign company cultures.
• Strong communicator for both internal and external communications.
• Fluent Japanese and business-level English.

• Risk management or equivalent experience at major companies such as financial institutions, securities firms, commodity companies, or trading houses.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, especially in statistics.
• Experience in credit risk management.
• Knowledge of internal control on risk policy and related company rules.
• A work style that favors working in the office over working from home.
